My most recent body of work has been an ongoing series titled “Oceanic Transit.” The journey by ship serves as metaphor for a personal journey from one chapter to the next, for being in transit between spaces, and the process of personal change and development. The sea voyage serves as metaphor for unexpected complications, as a storm could easily cause havoc to the journey. Reflections in the water serve to portray the idea that our histories become part of the journey. This series uses screen printed city fixtures to depict sailing ships en-route through lonely oceans. The choice of using an urban scenery as a vehicle to drive the metaphor of our unique human histories that we take with us on our travels came as a way to also facilitate the exchange of ideas and cultures that were brought to and from countries via the seas: the personal, the communal, and the cosmic.
